Discover Kangaroo Island
Kangaroo Island ( known locally as KI) is arguably the best place in Australia to see the widest range of Australian native animals in their natural habitat. Sea-lions basking on white beaches, koalas dozing in loft eucalptus, pelicans soaring over shimmering lagoons and koala grazing on open fields paint the perfect picture of a Kangaroo Island experience.
Dramatic coastline scenery and secluded pristine beaches are also a feature, along with premium quality fresh seafood and other food products. It is Australia’s third-largest island after Tasmania and Melville Island and is 96 miles long and 34 miles wide. There are several ways to do day trips to the island, but to truly experience this remarkable place, staying for a least 1-2 nights is recommended.
Kangaroo Island is a 30-minute flight from Kingscote to Adelaide airport or there is a daily passenger ferry from Penneshaw to Cape Jervis. There is no public transport or taxi service on the island, but shuttle services are available from the airport to Kingscote and other main locations around the island.
